SILT CONTENT TEST OF FINE AGGREGATE
SILT CONTENT TEST OF FINE AGGREGATE
AIM:
To determine the Silt content in the Fine aggregate.
APPARATUS REQUIRED:
- Glass Measuring jar
PROCEDURE:
- A measuring jar of (200 – 500ml) should be half filled with the sample.
- Water is added to the jar up to the 3/4th of its full capacity.
- The jar with water should be shaken for at least 30seconds, so that all the silt particle get mixed with water and jar is kept in undisturbed condition for two hour.
- After the clay and silt content settle down, the height of the clay and silt standing over the fine aggregate should be measured.

CALCULATION:
Percentage of Silt Content = (The height of the sand –Height of Silt deposits) / (Total height of the sand) X 100
RESULT:
1.Concrete Sand : As per IS 383 - Allowed max upto 3%
2.Masonry Sand : As Per 2116 - 1980 - River Sand Not More than 5% & The maximum quantity of silt - Not Exceed 8 % (AS Per SP - 62)
3.Plastering Sand : As Per 1542 - 1992 - Not More than - 5%
